Mercy Cyberknife Addition

The Mercy Cyberknife Addition involved a 3,200 square foot addition to house a new linear Cyberknife vault, control room, doctor’s offices, exam rooms and restrooms. The Cyberknife unit is used to treat cancer patients similar to a linear accelerator but allows higher doses of radiation with pin-point accuracy. The concrete vault walls serve as the primary radiation shield and maintain a four foot thickness on all walls of the vault. The ceiling and floor are also thickened to three to four feet. Virtual windows and backlit “Sky Tiles” were included in the vault to provide a relaxing environment during treatment for the patients. The Cyberknife is the very latest in cancer treatment technology with this one being the eighteenth one installed in the country.
