Iowa Methodist Medical Center & Blank Children’s Hospital Emergency Department

Graham Construction has been a trusted partner with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines since 1981. Our most recent project together is the IMMC & Blank Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. This multi-phase addition and renovation project is being constructed right in the heart of the hospital campus. Before the addition could start, the Emergency Department entrance and ambulance drop off was moved to temporary locations so there would be no disruption of service. Also, several major site utility services were relocated out of the area of the addition.

The new 40,860 square foot addition has a 4,800 square foot basement for mechanical needs. The IMMC General Emergency Department, Level 1 Trauma Center, and Ambulance Garage occupy this addition. The addition also includes a CATH Lab and two X-Ray Rooms. The Blank Pediatric Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit and ED Administration occupied a temporary space in the new addition while the 8,800 square foot old Emergency Department was renovated for the Ped’s and staff administration and locker room spaces. Maintaining 24-7 patient and public access, infection control and patient safety was a major challenge of this project
