RDG Office – Kenyon Building

The architectural firm of RDG Bussard Dikis is now making their home in the restored Kenyon Building in downtown Des Moines. Graham Construction and RDG were able to save this building from the wrecking ball and completely restore its wood timber framed structure and masonry exterior. Extensive demolition and structural work was completed to save the building, as it had suffered severe water and fire damage while sitting vacant. The wood structure and many of the construction elements were left exposed to highlight their functionality. The use of rough construction materials that would normally be hidden from view as finished surfaces posed a unique challenge to everyone involved. Because of the unique design, this project was an Honor Award winner for the American Institute of Architects design competition at the state level.
