When Broadlawns Medical Center decided to undertake the largest and most complex expansion and renovation of their facility to date, they turned to Graham Construction for Construction Management services. Since Broadlawns is a county owned hospital, they needed a Construction Manager that was not only an expert in Healthcare construction but also one that understands the Agency Construction Management delivery method that is required for public projects in Iowa. The project consists of two major phases. Phase I is a 27,000 square foot addition to the Emergency Department, MRI, Main Entrance and Admitting as well as a 15,000 square foot renovation of Radiology and the Walk in Clinic. Phase I also includes significant mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades. This phase will be completed in multiple phases to allow the hospital to maintain continuous operations during construction.
Phase II will consist of a new 42,000 square foot free standing Medical Office Building and an 11,000 square foot renovation of the Surgery Department. Graham acted as an Agency Construction Manager managing the work of fifteen separate prime contracts.
