Mahaska Hospice Serenity House provides a warm and caring environment for folks nearing the end of life. The six bed hospice home includes 15,000 sf divided between main and lower walk out levels. The main floor has six patient rooms, a family room, a family kitchen with fireplace, a children’s play room, the chapel, a central nurse’s station with medication and nourishment areas, and storage areas for supplies and linens.
The Serenity House truly feels like home and was designed with consideration to the needs and comfort of the family as well as the patient. Large windows and French doors provide each patient room with ample natural light, beautiful views of the outdoors and access to the cedar trellised deck. The rooms include vaulted ceilings, tile restrooms with walk-in showers, and wood trim throughout. The glass french doors between the patient and family areas in each room can be closed for privacy while maintaining the view to the patient. The lower level houses staff areas including a conference/lounge area, locker rooms, laundry room, rooms for storage and medical equipment clean up. There is also expansion space which will enable Serenity House to serve the needs of the community into the future.
